Cartoon July 14

This was a bit of an exercise for me; I wanted to make about as mainstream a cartoon as I possibly could, just to see how it would come out. I used to do this sort of "it's not a, it's a ---" format cartoon a lot, but it's been a long time. I think it turned out OK.

  2. I'm glad you brought this up, Ted. I know that this is not quite what it is about but you hit two nails on the head. Here's a list of the 1st World response to the our guy's adventure.

    No sanctions.

Few refusals to permit use of airspace for war-related flights.

No cancellations of SOFA's. (They have clauses where the host country can, for any reason, say "Time to go.")

No charges and warrants involving war crimes.

The first might require a modicum of organization but the rest are all doable. (I checked on the last three. In one case the greens in the legislature even said air space use was okay even though such things are expressly forbidden by the particular nation's constitution... but then what's a constitution for these days?)

The rest of the outraged world has been about as sincere as our public and their representatives. Our guy is just a naughty member of the right club. Being a member of club means we can all raze him but as long as he pays his dues, he's one of us. We must come from a good family, though, our trade deficit has been negative for quite a while so even being in arrears doesn't matter.

Not to ignore the sincere efforts of those who truly opposed the war before it began, but much of the world simply turned its back on the people of Iraq before the war started. Nothing metaphysical about the bus that ran over them.

  6. It's more than OK Ted, it's spot on. Remember just a very short time back, whenever you or Moveon or whoever dared to compare Bush to Hitler OMG the pearl clutching, the hand wringing, the gnashing of teeth and denunciations issued from every quarter was just withering. Now you'll hardly hear a mummer, oh some pipsqueak troll will rear it's ugly head from time to time and mouth off about your off the wall disrespect for Dear Leader but it's pretty much open season on the chimp now. I've got a couple of suggestions for future comparisions, how about Papa Doc and Pol Pot?

  7. Mugabe fits Bush fine...both are incompetent screw-ups and due for coups. Duvalier and Saloth Sar are both dead; the imagery would be fine but the power would not be there.
