Cartoon for March 2, 2009

This came out of a conversation with fellow editorial cartoonist Matt Bors. What if Obama were succeeding Hitler? Would he let him off the hook for his crimes too? The parallels are eerie.

    BTW doesn't it bother most people that their privacy is now gone?
    Or is this an a generation of exhibitionists we have?

    BBTW I did mention that Keith Olbermann was talking about journalists who have been spied on. Since you mentioned you've been surveyed; and that this site and its users have been also; don't you think you should go Really Really Public about what was done to you?
    Plus as interactors on your website; we're surveilled too y'know? And we're your fans. Don't you think you should do something about this?

    True, Bush only killed 2 million people. The equivalence, if there is one, is about the way Obama treats war criminals.

    The word you want in the last panel is "principle". "Principal" is a school administrator.

    Ted, there really isn't, this is way off the mark.

    More closely analogous would be something like a comparison with Harry Truman for not taking FDR (posthumously of course) to task for his incarceration of American citizens of Japanese descent during World War II.

    Comparing Either Obama or Bush to Hitler is a silly line of thought that lumps you in the company of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and the nutjobs that The Daily Show interviews for comedic response, who claim Obama is the anti-Christ, or Hitler, etc.

    It does make it nearly impossible for me to take you seriously anymore. I just don't get the sense that you're taking your task seriously. After all, you did vote for him, and you knew he wasn't going to prosecute Bush Co., you also claimed you voted for him because his race made it an historic event, and then ever since then you've belittled the concept that him being the first African-American president is meaningful.

    Please, don't become a joke. We have enough of that in our political discourse today.

    Hard to say. We never had a good chance to perform the experiment because Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR all cheated justice by dying early.

    In the exchange between Anon 10:06 and Ted, I am reminded of the saying: "When one dies, it is a tragedy. When a million die, it is a statistic." Let's not get hung up on six million versus two million; Bush deserves to be brought before the bar of justice just as much as Hitler did, but don't hold your breath waiting for the former to occur.

    Amen Ted!

    Supposed an average person moved into a new apartment and found a fully equipped meth lab. If he started using it to make meth and was caught, he'd go to jail. The fact that it was already in place from the previous tenant wouldn't earn him any leniency from a judge. An argument that meth is bad in principle, but people need their fix in the short term wouldn't help matters either.

    The left, rightly, denounced Bush as an idiot and a crook. But who's a bigger idiot, the idiot or the person who chooses to continue the idiot's policies. Continuing to do a bad thing because its the path of least resistance is still bad. One would hope that the leader of the free world is not too weak minded to realize that.
