Cartoon for March 28, 2009

This is the kind of cartoon I expected lots of my mainstream cartoonist colleagues to have come up with.

But I couldn't find any, so I went ahead with the idea anyway. I hope I'm right and that I was first and only, in which case this is an instant classic. Otherwise it's just another typical mainstream cartoon.

Drawing dinosaurs was fun, though.

  1. Wow! Can you maybe work backwards from this point and do a dinosaur strip? You draw them amazingly well.

  2. On my Paleolithic cheap DSL connection, I got to read your comments before the cartoon came up and I sprayed coffee on the screen.

  3. Let's not forget that although the dinosaurs did technically disappear, they actually evolved into a more efficient animal. Maybe that's what will happen to the USA. I'm still rooting for the break-up of America into four different countries. The Republican State, The Democrat State, the Communist Island, and The Libertarian State. I'm hoping that we Libertarians get the southwest. It's hot as hell in the summer, but walking on the Nevada desert in the winter is as close to walking on the moon as most of us will ever get to experience. And we get Vegas, of course - but now the cocktail waitresses all sell weed.

  4. Knowing how dickless the average editor is I would bet good money somebody has done a cartoon like yours but it was shot down for being "too contraversial" or some other nonsense.

It is a very good cartoon...I'd make T-shirts of it.

  5. I agree with Reverend Smith, you could do a whole dinosaur strip demonstrating all the stupid things our leaders are jabbering about while massive problems are beginning to literally sink us.

  6. Here's a meme that's getting a lot of traction lately,"If they're too big to fail, they're too big to exist.", ties in nicely with your latest toon.

  11. It should be a dung-eating shrew talking to his buddies while picking over a scant pile of scat.

or a frozen, starved dinosaur in a block of ice saying it.

  12. I thought you were smarter than this Mr. Rall ... I appreciate your intellect, don't whore yourself out for money ... you'll catch an STD.

  13. If this is mainstream American the dinosaurs should all be labelled "AIG", "Detroit" etc.

    Or just "Dinosaur" !)

  14. Also it was done by Jim Day in the March 22nd Review Journal

  15. Well, doh. This is why I usually avoid doing these obvious cartoons.

  16. I still think it's well done, I hadn't seen any antecedents before.

And I agree you could do a dinosaur strip. With the hindsight that the dinosaurs were pretty much doomed after their long reign, you could sneak in a lot of political commentary.

  17. But in a more accurate scenario, the dinosaurs would have caused the comet strike.

This makes it look like AIG, etc were victims instead of perpetrators.
