    I love everything about this strip (especially reminding us that there are important problems untied to the wars or elections). The farce of deterrence as a policy is just wonderfully exposed here. A minor side question: how (if at all) do you determine the ethnicities of characters in your strips? The logic of the strip works as well if the characters are black, white, latino, etc.(though not the rebel flag, probably). I'm just curious.

    One of my bugaboos about other editorial cartoons is that minorities only show up when the issue concerns race or violent inner-city crime. So I try to mix things up: a black guy on a corporate board, for example. Here, I went with rednecks because I thought they'd break the usual stereotype and because I just thought it was funny.

    Hi,
    I just saw on the History Channel that one of the law men who killed Bonnie and Clyde was named Pervis. Is this why you chose the name?

    Have you seen the Ruben Bolling cartoon on a similar theme - a mugger backs off a victim as he sees that Prob(Capture) * Penalty if captured > Gain from mugging. I like both of them.

    Hey Ted,

    On a national or international stage, do you think deterrence works? If so, how do you see it working? People attribute individualized explanations, for example, to why a nation acts a certain way based on US policy (invading Iraq=Libya giving up Nukes, etc) but it's always selective and seems sketchy.
