Cartoon for April 24

Sorry for the late posting of this cartoon. Technical BS and all that.

I don't expect most people to understand this one; it's a satire of art comix (the kind that appear in the NY Times Sunday Magazine) where nothing much happens and the characters are all sad and lonely. Which is pretty much the state of mind of Bush as he dreams of a time when he'll finally get more quality time with his beloved.

  1. A leafless tree silhouette with a black bird on it would have really driven the point home, I think.
If you were more obnoxious in using one those pleasing color schemes that are so popular right now, I definitely would have gotten it without the explanation.

    still, lmao!

  2. This is pretty funny. Yet...heartbreaking. Sad, sad little dictator.

If you ever do another one, I humbly recommend breaking it down into several tiny hard-to-read panels connected by a line running behind them to guide the reader. Or don't! Why should the cartoonist do all that lead the eye crap!?

  5. Are you kidding? When Condi is Vice President and has taken over the job of running the country (into the ground) from Dick Cheney, she'll hardly have a minute to spare for her husband.

  6. Republican Senator Domenici of New Mexico says he has a degenerative brain disease. No shit!

  7. Mr. Rall,
seeing how good you are at imitating those _horrible_ "cartoons" frighten me. Don't join the Dark Side!

  8. I love your stuff, Ted, but this just isn't funny to me. It reminds me of those short bits on NPR where some guy finds an obscure musical group playing really fringe music and over analyzes ever aspect of it so that us little people can understand the deeper sophistication of the art work.

  9. I hear you, Aggie. You may be right. Sometimes, though, you have to follow your muse wherever it takes you. I had my doubts about this one, but there's always tomorrow. Speaking of which, I should go post it.

  10. I got it and it was funny...unlike "the Procession" (from 2003, I think)

  11. A conservative's perspective: A cartoon of President Bush lusting after the black female Secretary of State. This is supposed to be funny or insightful, how? Is this racist? I think so. Is it sexist. Of course. I just don't get this at all. Not one bit.

  12. Just a reminder.... Condi had an oil tanker named after her. Something about faces and ships??

Not everything is a joke with something to "get".

  15. I must admit that I did not get your original comment, anonymous.

It was a parody of a reactionary conservative point of view which completely misses the point of the comic.
